Fun weekend

On Saturday, we met up with some of E's friends from Kindergarten, as well as her teacher for a little reunion. So fun! We watched Smurfs 2 at the movie theater...

 

Then went to a park for some play time...

E loved getting to see her Kindergarten buddies and teacher, and so did I:)

On a side note, I did find out last week who her 1st grade teacher will be. I don't know her, but am hearing great things about her, which is very reassuring. Still can't believe my baby will be a first grader...that just sounds so much older than Kindergarten, ya know...?!

 

Anyway...on Sunday, we went with Misty and Paden to the beach. It was a gorgeous day. Trying to get in all the beach days we can as summer dwindles down...

Last day

Well, it's a wrap! Wednesday was E's last day of Kindergarten. They had a little party to celebrate...

 

 

 

 

E had a great year, and a fabulous teacher. Sooo proud of my girl. Next stop...First Grade!!

Field Day

On Friday, Elizabeth's school had Field Day, where they got to play games and have races outside most of the day. I think this was E's favorite day of the year; she has been talking about it all weekend!

I wasn't there, but my friend Evelyn (Mom to E's buddy Casey) was and took lots of great pictures :)

 

 

 

 

Just a little over two more weeks left of Kindergarten...They go practically until July this year because of all the snow days we had. I am going to be sad when it's over. I love E's teacher, and she's had such an awesome year. And wow, 1st grade just sounds so much older than Kindergarten!

Class field trip (that I didn't get to go on)

Yesterday, my girl's class went on a field trip to Davis Farms. I didn't get to go as a chaperone, but Maria did:) It was hot out! Yes, in typical New England style, we jumped from 55 degree weather to 90 degree weather overnight.

Maria stayed over at our house the night before so she and Miss E could get to school bright and early for the big day...

Looks like it was a great day! Thanks for braving the heat, Maria, and chaperoning. I know it meant a lot to Elizabeth (and to me)!

Here is the part where I confess to having some jealousy and some mommy guilt that I didn't go. Being just one month into a new job makes it hard to take any time away. I've been working some long hours, which is good for my job performance, but not always so good for my mommy performance. I look back over the past year and I have in no way been as involved with E's class as I wanted or planned to be. Hopefully next year when she's in first grade (!!!!!) I'll be more settled in this job and will be able to do more in the classroom.

Memorial Day concert (and yes, I cried)

Yesterday, Miss E's school had a Memorial Day concert. The Kindergarteners sang two songs: God Bless America (which really surprised me, actually), and a song I didn't know, "Remember" ( a sweet song about remembering the soldiers). Of course I teared up...and my mom did, too :)

Movie night

The other night, the PTO at E's school hosted a movie night for families to come and watch a movie in the gym. The movie was "Wreck it Ralph". E was very excited to wear her new pj's to the event :)

She sat with one of her bff's, Casey. Luckily, Casey's Mom thought to bring a big blanket, because I didn't. The kids actually just watched a little of the movie, and spent more time going back and forth to the book fair that was going on, trying to talk us into buying all the trinkets (but not any books) they sold there. Don't even get me started on Scholastic...

100th day of school

Well, it's hard to believe, but she's had 100 days of Kindergarten already. It's funny, when I was growing up, I never heard a thing about the 100th day of school, never even knew when it was. Now it seems like all the schools make a big deal out of it. Anyway, E was excited about it, and had a fun day. Here she is celebrating with the other girls in her class.

Happy Mom

I just had a parent-teacher conference with E's teacher, and it went great. Her teacher her is sooo dedicated and enthusiastic, she is genuinely bummed out that tomorrow will most likely be a snow day (Boston is supposed to get like 2 feet of snow over Friday and Saturday....o.m.g.), Anyway, it just makes me feel so good that Elizabeth loves school and is doing so well, and has a teacher who loves the kids and her job. :)

Glad I went to the grocery store yesterday. I just drove past it, and it looked nuts.. And now, let the storm hype begin!

Back into the routine (and a Grey's Anatomy rant...)

Our Holidays were great, but I think Elizabeth is glad to be back to the routine, and back to school. I think she missed her friends and her teachers. I love that she is liking Kindergarten so much!

Playing outside at Grandma and Grandpa's yesterday afternoon...

On another note...(very) late to the party as always, I started watching Grey's Anatomy on Netflix. I never watched it before, but I'm on the third season now. So addictive! And Dr. McDreamy...oh, yeah...:) There was one adoption related storyline on the show that bothered me though. It was the one where Izzy revealed that as a teenager, she gave up a child for adoption. When Izzy was treating a pregnant girl in the hospital, she was actually trying to talk the girl into giving up her baby, even when the girl was saying she loved her baby and wanted to keep it. Izzy trotted out the whole tired argument about the girl not being able to give her child "the kind of life it deserves" because she lives in a trailer park and the girl's mother works in a factory. As if having a low income makes someone an unfit parent. Ugg...ok, enough of my rant. I know it's only a TV show, but it just bothered me to see that kind of coercion and the idea that she isn't good for enough for her own baby being put into that girl's head.

Holiday Show

This morning was Elizabeth's school's Holiday Show (our first one!)...I had an adorable Christmas dress for E to wear, but she refused (sigh...).  Oh well, she still looks pretty cute to me :) The Kindergartners sang "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer". They did great!! Yes, this Mommy teared up. And so did Grandma...:)

Character leader

So on Friday when I picked E up from school, she was very excited to show me an award she won at school that day. It was the "Character leader" award. Elizabeth explained to me that she won it for "being good and being nice to (her) friends." Every few months the school does this, and one student from each class gets chosen. E was soo proud and excited about getting this, she even insisted on wearing her new tee shirt to bed last night :)

Pioneer Days

Today E's school held an event called Pioneer Days. The gym was set up with booths that the kids could visit and learn about different aspects of life in "pioneer times." Elizabeth's (awesome) teacher emailed a few pics from the event. :)

 

 

E reported that her favorite parts were "shaving" her face, and digging for gold. She even brought home a little piece of gold in a plastic bag :)
