Six years of motherhood

Six years ago today, Elizabeth and I met and became a family. It would be another year and a half before the adoption would become final, but it is on this day, 11/30/07, that I really consider that I became E's mom. I am not her only mom. J will always be her first mom. I love J and consider her part of my family although we've never met.

Some adoptive moms have said they wish their child came from them. I never wish E had come from me. If she had, she would not be exactly who she is, and I wouldn't change one single thing about her.

Happy Family Day! Six years goes fast!

Happy Birthday to me :)

Yesterday was my birthday. We celebrated at my parents' last night. E had spent the day at Maria's (it's school vacation week) while I worked (on my bday, blech...) and they made me a bday cake. Plus my mom bought a chocolate mousse cake from Whole Foods so I got 2 cakes! Lucky me :)

Thanksgiving weekend

We had a great long Thanksgiving weekend, spent with family and friends. Activities including eating delicious food, practicing hand stands with Aunt Betsy, sliding down the banister at my parents' :0, going for a walk in the woods, and taking over my iPad...:)

I love 4 day weekends!!

Thanksgiving Day recap

One of the best parts of our Thanksgiving this year is that my sister and BIL are visiting here from Colorado! Since we rarely get to have all the family together in one place, we decided to take some family pictures.

Of course, once I downloaded some games for her on my iPad and let her use it, the kids' vtech player I got her last summer was completely abandoned. Side note: I bought my iPad about two weeks ago and I LOVE it...I want to marry it...:)

E and I also hung out for a bit at our friends' house, who live just down the street from my parents.

It was a fabulous day. And on a totally unrelated note, I will not be stepping on the scale today...;)

Up close and personal with Miss E

The other day, Elizabeth was interviewed  by a 4th grader and here is what E brought home...

 

Funny that she said Cinderella was her favorite movie...she has never seen it(although she definitely knows who she is)!  I love that she reported that she has a sister :) Even though Brianna doesn't live with us, she is very much E's little sister.

Miss E and I are heading back home today from Maine.  Back to work for me tomorrow (sigh...)  We've had such a great vacation, I hate to see it end.  But Kindergarten starts on Thursday, which we're both very excited about!  One of us is a little queasy and stressed about it, also....hmmm...can you guess who?   Yeah, it's not Elizabeth...

Here are a few random pictures from our weekend.  Besides going to the Blue Hill Fair, E spent a lot of time riding her bike around and just hanging out.

My Dad is recovering from having Pancreotitis and Gallbladder removal surgery.  He's pretty tired and still kind of uncomfortable.  I'm hoping he heals quickly and feels better very soon.  We love you Dad/Grandpa xoxoxox

Summer vacation

We're still in vacation mode around here, since returning from San Diego.  I'm off of work all week, since there's no Child Care for E until she starts school next Thursday (!!!)...I'm definitely not complaining.  It is awesome having this time off to enjoy the end of summer.  (Did I just say the end of summer?  Boo hooo...it goes so fast...)  We've been hanging out a lot at home, enjoying the pool. 

Nothing says summer like having the ice cream truck come by!

We'll be going up to Maine tomorrow for the long weekend.  My parents are up at their house there for the summer.  However...last week, my Dad was rushed to the hospital with Pancreotitis.  He ended up having a gallstone removed, and then his Gallbladder.  Ugg...my poor Dad.  He's been in lots of pain :(   Fortunately, he's doing better now though and is supposed to be released from the hospital today.  I am really looking forward to seeing him, and my Mom, who has been doing a lot of driving back and forth to the hospital.  It's over an hour drive to the hospital (in Bangor) from their house.  Anyway...E and I are looking forward to going up and keeping them company for a few days :)

San Diego recap, part 2!

So, Saturday morning, our amazing friend/hostess Julie had a brunch and had some our favorite San Diegans over :)  It was so great to see everyone!   Didn't get as many pictures as I would have liked from this (too busy enjoying Julie's delicious food- oops!), but here are a couple with the kiddos who came.

 

Saturday afternoon, E and I went to go visit with E's adorable little sister, B.  B turned 3 in March, and omg, she is the cutest little thing...Not sure how much I've mentioned B here on the blog, but she was adopted as a baby by a super nice couple in San Diego.  The girls have gotten in several visits in over the past 3 years, but not nearly as many as I'd like, since we live so far apart.  B actually deserves a post all of her own, which I will get to soon :)  E had a great time with her little sis, and really seems to get that B is someone special, and was a great big sister to B, helping her on the swing and being very sweet and attentive to little B.  I could not take my eyes off the two girls together, and watching them got me very choked up...lots of feelings for me there, again, another post all it's own...

After our visit with little B, Elizabeth and I went to one of my old haunts, and just about my favorite place in the world- La Jolla Shores.  I could not be in San Diego and not go here.  It was a short, but very sweet visit:)

Sunday morning came way too fast, and it was time to leave...Julie's great-niece (who had spent the night) and E had a great time playing (and eating) together:)

 And then we were off to the airport...Bye bye, San Diego, we love you!  We'll be back soon (I hope)....

 And Thank You Julie, for taking such great care of us during our visit.  We love you!
