Well, hello there

Wow, I cannot believe it's been almost two weeks since I last posted. Bad blogger, bad blogger! My big excuse: I just finished my second week of a new job. It's been busy, stressful, and some long hours. But it's been kind of exhilarating, too. As I told my sister, each morning feels like I'm being shot out of a cannon. I have been pretty wiped out by the end of each day, and just haven't had the energy for blogging once Elizabeth is asleep. I really do love to blog, though, and am determined to keep it going.
Miss E is doing great. It blows my mind that she will be 6 in two months (still not sure what we're going to do for her birthday this year), and going in to 1st grade!! My baby is growing up fast. She has even slept in her own room for the last couple of nights. I'm hoping this will continue. I think, I know she really wants to have this independence. She's made several attempts in the past to sleep on her own, but usually ended up coming back to my bed. I think at almost 6, it's time. This morning, I was really proud of her. I knocked on her door and called out that it was time to wake up. A few minutes later, I opened her door, and she was already up and getting dressed all by herself. That may not sound like a big deal, but for us, it was. We've often struggled in the mornings to get her up and to dress herself. I know a lot of it is my fault. I totally and freely admit I have babied her too much in some areas. Morning time is one of those times when I know I do too much for her, like get her dressed. Mostly because I am in a hurry to get us to school/work on time. But still,  I know I should have been making her do more for herself, things that she is perfectly capable of doing. So this morning, when I opened her door and saw that she picked out her own clothes and was getting dressed with out any prompting (ok, nagging) from me, I was so proud. And it made our morning so much easier, and nicer. Needless to say, I praised her up the wazoo.
Our two little pets, Susie the mouse and Isabella the Beta fish are both still alive and doing well. By the way, mouse cages need to be cleaned out way more often than I had thought. Just sayin'...
On that note, I leave you with a little Elizabeth cuteness :)

All the latest...

So Friday night, there was a free skating night for the elementary school kids in our town. Unfortunately, I picked up the bug E had earlier in the week and was feeling kind of cruddy on Friday, so I started to tell E I wasn't going to be able to take her. I just wasn't up to it. All I wanted was to go home and crash on the couch. But when I tried to tell E we weren't going skating, she was so disappointed, and mommy guilt kicked into overdrive, and well, I ended up taking her. And actually I started feeling better while we were there, and she had fun skating, so I'm glad we went after all. I rented a pair of skates and got on the ice with her. And let's just say "graceful" and "coordinated" would not be words used to describe me. Plus, it's been decades since I've skated. So E watched me awkwardly try to get my bearings on the ice, and then helpfully informed me that if I needed a milk crate, I could go get one.

Saturday, after her soccer game, we went to the pet store. For reasons unknown to me, I agreed that we should buy a pet Mouse. She is a cute little white twitchy thing who Elizabeth named Susie. Although Miss Susie and I did not get off to the best of starts, we are buds now. When we first brought her home, I set up her cage for her then took her out of her little box to put her in the cage. And that is when she bit me. And it hurt like a~~ let me tell you! But we have made up and are friends now (not really, but I think she's cute, and E likes her).

Later on, we met some friends at the playground at E's school.

Saturday night, hanging out with Susie in her ball. Not quite sure why E has a summer dress on over her soccer uniform.

Today was another beautiful Spring day, and we went to the park with Misty and Paden. Pictured here, a rare moment of getting along today. Most days, these two do great together. Today, it felt like they just pushed each others buttons. Hopefully, next time will be better! We love you guys :)

And in other news, tomorrow I start a new job. Feeling kind of nervous, and kind of excited. I met a few of the people on my team last week at their staff meeting, and they were all nice. All younger than me, but seemed professional and committed to the work.

Off to bed now to be rested up for the big first day!

Meet Isabella, the male Elephant Ear Betta fish

Introducing the newest member of our family...

Elizabeth really, really wants a cat or dog, but she settled for a fish...She decided to name him Isabella, even though it's a boy :) We got him on the spur of moment today after her skating lesson. Actually, it wasn't totally spur of the moment; we've been talking about getting a fish off and on for a while now. And yesterday, we had a play date at a friend's house, and we admired their little Betta fish, so today I decided it was finally time to get one of our own. Kinda fun!

Fun, busy day

Today was the last day of Elizabeth's school vacation (her Day Care was closed all last week and today), so I wanted to make it fun. We started out by having a nice lazy morning at home. I don't even think we were out of our jammies before 10! When we finally got going, we started out with a visit to Petco, so E could visit with all the animals there. She loves it there, and is lobbying heavily to get if not a dog, than a Hamster. I'm thinking more along the lines of maybe a goldfish...

Then we went to E's favorite playground, which is in the same town her Day Care is in. It was sunny, but kinda cold...E didn't mind at all, though. She was very happy when a few girls around her age showed up, and she played with them for a while.

Then, I decided to take E out for her favorite lunch- Pizza:)

After that, we ended up going to visit my parents' neighbors, where E played with her friends plus a couple more kids who showed up for a play date. That was great for me, since it gave me a break from being "entertainment director." :)

All in all, it was a tiring, but fun day, and holiday week. I think E will be glad to be back in school tomorrow. She was telling me this morning that she missed her school friends. Hope you all had a great holiday, too!
