Ariel and the broken sled

So...yesterday we were on our way to visit our friend Maria after E's gymnastics class when I had to run a quick errand. Right next to where we stopped was a hill with scores of happy children sledding. Of course E, knowing we keep the sled in the trunk of the car, immediately begged to go sledding. I was hesitant because we were not prepared to be playing outside, she did not have any snow pants or mittens, and it was cold out!! But I decided to let her make a few runs, knowing she could change clothes and warm up at Maria's. I gave her my driving gloves to wear and tucked her yoga pants into her boots and called it good. She was so psyched!

She did get wet and cold after a few minutes, but had a great time until her sled cracked apart after it banged into a rock. At that point we headed to the car and cranked up the heat...I promised E we could go back the next day, and we would get a new sled tonight. Of course, when we went to Target last night, they were all out of any possible form of snow transportation, and rather than being disappointed, E became fixated on an Ariel doll in the toy aisle. Against my better judgement, I bought it for her. I was actually pretty mad at myself for giving in, because I know I only bought it for her to avoid a tantrum in the middle of Target. But I did buy it and taught my daughter a great lesson that making a fuss is a super way to get what you want. That's some awesome parenting there...my Mother of the Year award should be arriving in the mail any day now.

Anyway...we went to Lowes this morning and bought some duct tape and patched up her sled, and were back in on the "slopes"by 1pm...

Even got some playground time in!

Christmas vacation recap

E had a great Christmas break. I had to work a lot of it, but Elizabeth got to spend lots of fun time with Grandma baking cookies and playing Legos with Grandpa. She also stayed with Maria a lot, and they cooked, went to the library and just had a fun time hanging out:) Thank you so much Maria, Grandma and Grandpa for watching E during the break. She was very happy not to have to go to vacation camp at the Y:)

And because of the snow storm here, school was closed yesterday and today, so she got an extra long vacay...:)

She did a great job helping me shovel out the car this morning...

And then wanted to try to go sledding, but it was very cold and windy, so we didn't last too long...

First sledding of the year and gymnastics

After a week of cold and snow, today was a balmy 50 degrees. We took the sled out of storage (aka the trunk of my car) and went out behind our apartment building where it's nice and hilly. I was so surprised there were no other kids out sledding. E had a great time, and it was nice not to be freezing while outside!

In the afternoon, E started a gymnastics class. She did great and was all smiles throughout the class. Not very good lighting in the gym for picture taking, but I got a few...

Another snow day

We had another snowstorm on Thursday night and Friday, so schools were closed yesterday. E and I had a nice lazy morning (I didn't even get out of my pj's until almost noontime), playing and reading. After lunch we decided to brave the elements and went sledding out back for a little while.

Later on, after the snow stopped and the roads cleared we went to,a couple of stores. Not sure how it happened, but E talked me in to getting her a pony...

Scenes from the long blizzardy weekend

Saturday night, after it stopped snowing, we went out for a little walk. There was lots (and lots) of snow. Everywhere.

Some shaving cream fun...I remembered using shaving cream back in my days as a preschool teacher and knew E would like it. She did. :)

Today was sunny and gorgeous. Perfect day for sledding and shoveling.

Took me quite a while to dig out my car, but I did it!

E's buddy from school came over for a while this afternoon to go sledding.

Sledding with a neighbor friend

Did I mention there was a lot of snow? Everywhere?

We had a really nice long weekend. E has had a cold, so she was sort of low energy much of the time. We spent a lot of time just hanging out inside, playing games and watching movies. School is closed again tomorrow, but luckily her Afterschool program will be open all day, so she will go there, since I have to work.
