All the latest...

So Friday night, there was a free skating night for the elementary school kids in our town. Unfortunately, I picked up the bug E had earlier in the week and was feeling kind of cruddy on Friday, so I started to tell E I wasn't going to be able to take her. I just wasn't up to it. All I wanted was to go home and crash on the couch. But when I tried to tell E we weren't going skating, she was so disappointed, and mommy guilt kicked into overdrive, and well, I ended up taking her. And actually I started feeling better while we were there, and she had fun skating, so I'm glad we went after all. I rented a pair of skates and got on the ice with her. And let's just say "graceful" and "coordinated" would not be words used to describe me. Plus, it's been decades since I've skated. So E watched me awkwardly try to get my bearings on the ice, and then helpfully informed me that if I needed a milk crate, I could go get one.

Saturday, after her soccer game, we went to the pet store. For reasons unknown to me, I agreed that we should buy a pet Mouse. She is a cute little white twitchy thing who Elizabeth named Susie. Although Miss Susie and I did not get off to the best of starts, we are buds now. When we first brought her home, I set up her cage for her then took her out of her little box to put her in the cage. And that is when she bit me. And it hurt like a~~ let me tell you! But we have made up and are friends now (not really, but I think she's cute, and E likes her).

Later on, we met some friends at the playground at E's school.

Saturday night, hanging out with Susie in her ball. Not quite sure why E has a summer dress on over her soccer uniform.

Today was another beautiful Spring day, and we went to the park with Misty and Paden. Pictured here, a rare moment of getting along today. Most days, these two do great together. Today, it felt like they just pushed each others buttons. Hopefully, next time will be better! We love you guys :)

And in other news, tomorrow I start a new job. Feeling kind of nervous, and kind of excited. I met a few of the people on my team last week at their staff meeting, and they were all nice. All younger than me, but seemed professional and committed to the work.

Off to bed now to be rested up for the big first day!

Sunday at the Zoo

Yesterday, we got up and with nothing on the schedule for the day, had a nice relaxing morning. Love those! Then, since the sun was out, I took E to the playground. It was actually a lot chillier than I thought it was going to be, and I was definitely wishing I had taken my hot coffee with me...oh, well :0  We had fun, anyway.  After we were finished at the playground,   I decided we should go the zoo, only about 10 minutes away. It's a small zoo, and it's still only April, so I wasn't sure how much we would get to see, or how interesting it would be. It ended up being terrific.  I thought it would be a fairly quick visit, but we stayed for 3 hours!

They even had a playground (with a spider web!) where we spent most of our time :)

By the playground, there was a barnyard, with goats that can be petted. Elizabeth spent a long time petting the different goats, and I wasn't surprised when she told me later that this was her favorite part of the zoo.  She was so sweet and gentle with them, and also with little toddlers who came by and wanted to touch the goats.

Such a fun day! It brought back memories of how I used to take E to the San Diego zoo all the time.

Some much needed fun

The events here in Greater Boston over the past week have been...surreal. I tried to keep a lot of it from Elizabeth, and didn't have the news on when she was up. There was one night when we went to a pizza place and a large screen TV was on and so she saw a lot of it ( replays of The Marathon bombings). She definitely had questions. I explained that some people got hurt and there were a lot of others helping them.

Anyway...after this week, we definitely needed some fun and laughs. Sooo...we went with our buds Misty and Paden to the Shriners Circus. It was great!!

She ran into a friend from her Kindergarten class...

And got to ride an Elephant...

And shake hands with a very tall clown...:)

Boston, you're my home

First things first...

Yesterday's events were awful. I just can't wrap my mind around it. Patriot's Day, or "Marathon Monday" is a much loved Holiday here in Massachusetts. And as much as I bitch about the New England winters, and how I miss San Diego, I do love Boston. It's where I'm from and spent most of my childhood. And it breaks my heart that something like this could have happened here. Other people have already written about this far more eloquently than I could, so I'll leave them to it. I just want to say though, my heart goes out to everyone who was there, and their friends and family.

Moving on...

Miss E had her first soccer game on Saturday. A group of 5 and 6 year old chasing a ball up and down a field? Adorable!!

On Sunday, we had a little playground time...

Yesterday, we met up with one of my cousins who was in town for the weekend (Hi, Tessa!) from CA. It was great to see her, and E enjoyed meeting her. We went out for a yummy breakfast:)

In the afternoon, we went up to my friend Jennifer's house in NH (Hi, Jen!) for a visit. That's where we were when the events at the Marathon took place.
Got some cute pics of Elizabeth and Jen's daughter Anna. E had a great time playing with Anna on their backyard trampoline :)

Thanks Tessa and Jen, it was great seeing both of you yesterday!

A dream realized

Before becoming a mom, one of the things I always imagined I'd do one day with my child was, take her to Soccer. Not because I'm so into sports (I'm totally not), or love Soccer particularly. It just always seemed like such a quintessential Mom thing to do, go watch your kid play soccer. So today, I got to realize that particular dream. It was E's first official Soccer practice. The weather cooperated beautifully by getting up to 70 today! E was really excited to go, and seemed to have a great time. I had a great time sitting on the bleachers, chatting with other parents. :)

Double trouble...

On Sunday, E and I had a great afternoon with Misty and Paden. I am so happy that playground weather has finally arrived. It felt like a very long winter.

I've said it before, these two pretty much act like an old married couple, complete with bickering, making up, and getting into trouble together...:)
