Gone Girl

So...my Elizabeth has been up in Maine for just over two weeks now. I miss her so much I almost can't stand it. Thank God she will be back next Sunday. Just one more week. In the meantime, we have Skyped several times and talked on the phone almost every day. And sent cards. The report from Machias is good, she is having a great time and doing a lot of fun things. Last week she attended a nature camp put on by the University. Apparently, there were some older kids there who took E under their wings, and I know she must have loved that. She misses me, I know, but she sounds really good when I talk to her.
As for me, I've been working such long days at work, the time is actually going by quite fast. My job is another story (don't ask)...Anyhoozles...I've also gone to the beach a couple of times and read a book on my iPhone. I'm reading this crazy book called Gone Girl. Very entertaining, hard to put down, and did I mention crazy??
So...one more week...I cannot wait!!!!

Kind of quiet around here...

Elizabeth is up in Maine for the week with Maria. Since I started a new job pretty recently, I have no vacation time yet. I was feeling really badly that E wouldn't be getting any kind break over the summer. Maria, who has a place in Maine, has been saying that she would love to take E up there for a week or two. So, on Friday, the day after E's birthday, off they went...Last I hear (5 minutes ago) all is well. Elizabeth is happy and busy finding snails, helping Maria garden, walking the dog and learning Reiki :)
So while I miss my girl terribly, I am so glad she is getting a vacation. Until she gets back, things are going to be pretty quiet around here.

For now, I leave you with this picture of Miss E on her birthday :)

And now you are 6...

Dear Elizabeth,

I know every parent says this, but I'm going to say it too. I can't believe you are another year older. You are 6 already! It has been quite a year. The biggest thing that happened was Kindergarten. I remember last summer feeling so worried and stressed about the big change that was coming- you transitioning from Day Care to public school. I was especially worried about the bus ride you would have to take every day from school to your YMCA After School program. I hated that you were no longer going to be in the same place all day. But, of course, it all worked out fine. And as far as Kindergarten went, honey, I must say...you rocked it. You were one of the youngest, but you did great. You had a wonderful teacher, and made lots of nice friends in your class. I couldn't be happier with how it all went. And I couldn't be prouder of you. You also played soccer for the first time this Spring and I loved watching your games. You definitely weren't the most assertive player, but I loved that you were so social and enjoyed running around with the other kids. :)

Thanks to your Grandma, you took skating lessons, too, which you loved.

I want to remember some important things about you right now. You love our 3 pets that you talked me in to getting for us:) You especially love to hold and play with Eric the Hamster.

Your love of the water continues, and we are both so happy that summer is here. This means lots of pool and beach time for us!

You have lost 4 teeth now, and I love, love, love your beautiful smile.

You are starting to read, and have lots of sight words, which is so exciting!

Your favorite song is "Call Me Maybe." We love singing to that song played loudly in the car.:)

You've graduated from Nick Jr. to straight Nick, and your favorite show right now is Full House. Brings back memories for me!

You love the iPad, and play Mine Craft and Temple Run on it.

Your favorite moves are Annie, The Little Mermaid and of course, The Wizard of Oz.

You are a happy, fun loving girl who makes me, and everyone around you smile frequently.

I can't wait to see what the next year will bring. I have no doubt that 1st grade will be a fabulous as Kindergarten was. Even though I have been your mother for almost 6 years now, there isn't a day that goes by that I don't look at you and feel blown away by how lucky I am to have you for my daughter.

Happy, happy birthday my sweetie pie, I love you!!

Mommy

A perfect day (alternate title: I love summer!)

Today we did my favorite thing: go to the beach! It was in the 90's here, so heading to the ocean was pretty much obligatory.

E made lots of different friends at the beach. Being an only child, she is always happy to have other kids to play with. Just mom is pretty boring:)

As always in New England, the water was pretty chilly, even after all the hot days we've had lately. But someone didn't mind at all...

We stopped for a clam roll and ice cream on the way home. And yes, my almost 6 year old is rolling her eyes at me for taking yet another picture of her today...such is life when your mom is a blogger :)

P.S. : Yesterday, I picked E up at camp, and she was so excited to tell me her front tooth that's been wiggly for months came out. Check out this cute new grin:

Weekend at the lake

Last weekend, my friend Heidi invited E and I up to her Mom's cabin on a lake. We had sooo much fun! It totally felt like being on vacation. Heidi's daughter is a year older than E, and the girls were insuperable the whole time. They kayaked, swam, played with dolls and went for lots of rides on the motorboat.

We thought the weather was going to be cool and rainy all weekend, but it turned out to be sunny a lot of the time. Have I mentioned before...I loooove summer :)

Thank you Heidi, we had a wonderful time!!!
